The fourth century AH / tenth century AD is considered the golden century of Islamic civilization at all levels, including historical thought, to which al-Mutahhar al-Maqdisi, one of the historians of this century, belongs.

From this point of view, this research deals with the study of the problematic sectarian affiliation of al-Mutahhar ibn Taher al-Maqdisi in his book The Beginning and History through an introduction and several basic elements dealing with his birth, upbringing and place among historians of his time; And a conclusion in which the researcher reached a logical hypothesis through which he revealed the ambiguity of the fragments contained in the sources that referred to this topic.
