Abstract EN

This paper gives a descriptive and analytic study of expressions from two dictionaries ; the first is for the Islamic styles and the second is for idiomatic expression.

on the other hand, idiomatic expression play an important role in language learning and teaching, so we found in linguistic dictionaries several terms of these kind of phrases and overlapping concepts, as the result, several phrases classified under several types.

to address this issue, this paper studied the concept of style and idiomatic expression from the two corpus and linguistic dictionaries, and give several applications to show the overlapping between the two terms.

as a result, this paper gives criteria for determining the degree of connotation of the phrase by the distance between its literal meaning and its overall meaning, word stability, contextual independence and usage.
