Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to identify the influence of speech sounds on one another and on word forms harmony, with particular reference to sibawayh's 'constraint' term.

the study is organized into an introduction and nine sections, all elucidating the influence of constraints such as (assimilation, deletion, omission, germination) on parsing and structures.

the study revealed that arabic prefers lightening to germination, and that assimilation involved the influence of a consonant on another consonant, a kinetic on another kinetic, a short kinetic on a long one or a long kinetic on a consonant.

the study also showed that a constraint contributed to word arrangement syntax as evident in verbal predicate to emphatic suffix 'anna and doer suffix 'ta.
