Abstract EN

This study aims at elucidating al-Alusi’s interpretive and cognitive approach in his commentary on the Qur’an : “the spirit of meanings”, in view that explication discourse is an interpretive effort to discover hidden meanings and clarify discursive and informative objectives.

the study adopted the analytic retrospective descriptive approach, making use of cognitive linguistic methods that clarify connections between language and the world in mind.

the study comes in two sections.

the first section introduces basic concepts of cognition in its relations to language, meaning and the world.

the second, examples of illusion and means to dissipate it in discourse as a cognitive concept and as an interpretive tool that scatters in Alusi’s commentary.

the study arrived at some important findings the most important of which is that al-Alusi did not make any interpretive and cognitive organized method.

he provided some examples highlighting his interest in discursive meanings as mental representations that materialize in actual examples.
