Over the course of its recent history, Mali has witnessed numerous rebel movements, the most serious of which was the rebellion in the north of the country in 2012, which turned into an armed conflict, in which many international and regional parties intervened, committing the most heinous international crimes and gross violations of human rights.

in the face of the inability of the financial authorities to investigate these crimes and violations and to ensure that, owing to the weakness of their judicial system, the perpetrators are prosecuted and punished, the financial government has referred the armed conflict to the international criminal court, as a state party to its statute, which has opened an investigation into the crimes and alleged violations, with the conclusion that several officials prosecuted and sentenced by the ICC have been indicted.
