This study seeks to address one of the most prominent issues that have been raised in the academic arena in the current period after the changes that the world has witnessed in the scientific and knowledge field as a result of the information and technological revolution, which is the issue of the role of the university in promoting scientific research and knowledge investment, especially since universities are seen as the main responsible behind sustainable development is the fact that its mission is no longer limited to education and research, but has become the main engine of the knowledge economy, as portrayed by the president of the university of Maryland in 2000, saying: "university research ignites the knowledge economy just as electricity ignites the industrial economy.
