During the late first quarter of the twentieth century, Turkey witnessed radical changes, which began with the overthrow of the Ottoman caliphate and the declaration of the republic led by Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, which caused a wide debate and great controversy in the Islamic world in general, and the Arab world in particular.

many Arab newspapers were keen to cover it, most notably : the Algerian newspaper -al-Shehab.

from this perspective, our research paper aims to try to determine the extent of the al-Shehab newspaper’s contribution in monitoring the movement of change that Turkey witnessed during the mentioned period, especially at the religious and social levels, and to highlight its resonance in the Arab world by revealing various attitudes and trends, as well as our desire to raise a sensitive topic that is still being brought up to us these days regarding the dualism of religion and politics.

overall, our study concluded that al-Shehab newspaper, through its interest in the Turkish issue, tried hard to monitor the policy followed by Mustafa Kamal Ataturk to consolidate the basic components of the new Turkish identity, following in its coverage the presentation of various points of view and opinions about it without siding with any of them, aiming to form opinions based on contemplation and not rushing in making judgments.
