The communicative approach is a scientific term that suggests communication to be any language’s main function, and that structure can only be understood through such function.

Functional Grammar is one of the most important trends that emerged within the school of Pragmatism.

It is the result of a plethora of scientific, western and eastern ideologies in which it became part and parcel for consecutive centuries until it was translated into its written form by several scholars and linguists.

The theory of functional grammar was established in the field of linguistics by a number of linguists led by the Dutch scholar "Simon Dik," before itcrystallized and made its way to our Arab world; starting from Morocco by Ahmed Almotokl, the most famous Arab author in the theory of functional grammar.

Functional grammar was able to carve out a unique position for itself among the dominant movements in the linguistic arena.

This is because of the researchers’ diligence and their work to consolidate this trend, and the fact that it did not seek to exclude other approaches but rather continued to benefit from them, believing in the unity and relativity of linguistic research, and the possibility of dialogue among the different approaches.

Therefore, what are the reasons for the weakness of our students in Arabic grammar? What contributions can functional grammar make to simplify Arabic grammar? How can communicative theory be invested in the teaching of functional grammar?
