Abstract EN

The main aim of this study is to test for the validity of Export-Led growth hypotheses in the Libyan economy.

In addition, it aims to examine whether or not, outward-oriented trade policies Can be considered as a promise path for balanced development in Libya.

Using annual data, for the period of 1962-2017, the study has utilized the bounds testing approach to cointegration, within ARDL framework and Toda & Yamamoto (1995) long run causality test.

By estimating two models for oil and non-oil sectors the main findings of the study indicated that Export-Led growth hypotheses is valid in the case of the Libyan economy.

However, the heavy oil dependency nature of the Libyan economy has significantly changed the image.

as the oil sector benefits from exports more than non-oil sectors.

Therefor, export sector has failed in achieve a balanced growth in the Libyan economy.
