Abstract EN

The aim of this scientific contribution is to shed light on the different contexts of Spanish archeological research in the areas of Saguia el Hamra and Oued eddahab (’ River of gold’).

After Spain resolved its conflict with the European countries about the control of Atlantic Ocean opposite the canary Islands, and after docking its ships on a group of the headlands , the Spanish armed forces had penetrated into the desert.

They had benefited from the research of travellers and exploreres who worked for some associations, organisations and colonial intellectual currents.

In this regard, after the subjugation of population and the control of the area, some professional archeologists who were interested in the prehistoric monuments had arrived to Essmara and Laayoun cities.

They had received some military reports which included some indications about an ancient human settlement in the area of Saguia El Hamra and Oued Eddahab.

Actually, these indications marked the beginning of Spain’s interest in the prehistoric civilizations and cultures in the area.
