تتناول الدراسة صدى الاضطهاد الذي تعرض له المسيحيون في منطقة كويان سنة 1925 في الصحافة العراقية وموقفها منهم، ويمكن القول إن ذلك الموقف كان يتفق مع الموقف الرسمي لسلطات الانتداب البريطاني والحكومة العراقية -آنذاك-، التي جاءت في إطار حملتها الإعلامية من أجل الحفاظ على ولاية الموصل (جنوب كوردستان)، وضمنها الأراضي الواقعة شمال خط (بروكسل) التي كان يعيش فيها المسيحيون.

إذ مارست الصحافة العراقية دورا مهما في نقل تلك الأحداث إلى الرأي العام العراقي، وتسعى بكل جهودها اقناع الساكنين في المناطق العراقية المختلفة وبصورة خاصة في ولاية الموصل، في البقاء ضمن الدولة العراقية.

وسعت جاهدة إلى بيان الواقع المزري الذي كان يعيش فيه المسيحيون تحت الحكم العثماني، مؤكدة بان ذلك الواقع لن يكون أفضل في ظل الجمهورية التركية.

ويذكر أن المسيحيين تعرضوا للكثير من الاضطهاد، ولم يكن الاهتمام الدولي بهم على مستوى الأحداث، وهكذا أصبح هؤلاء المسيحيون ضحايا للصراع الدولي، ولم تدافع عنهم بريطانيا بعد تحقيق هدفها الرئيس بضم ولاية الموصل إلى العراق

English Abstract

The current paper studied the echo of the Christians persecution and suffering who lived in Goyan area in 1925 reflected in the Iraqi press.

Agreeing with their position, the official position of the British Mandate authorities and the Iraqi government sought with all its powers to preserve the Mosul Vilayet and the lands located to the north of Brussels Line in which Christians lived.

The Iraqi press was active in conveying these events to the Iraqi public opinion, commenting on these events.

The Iraqi authorities endeavored with all efforts to convince the residents of different Iraqi regions, especially those in the Mosul Vilayet, about the degree of injustice and persecution wherein the Christians suffered under the Turkish rule.

Hence, their message was that their conditions would not become good if they were under the Turkish rule.

In fact, the Christians were subjected to a lot of persecution; however, international attention to them was not at the level of events.

Thus, these Christians became victims of the international conflict, and Britain did not defend them especially after achieving its main goal, which was annexing Mosul Vilayet to Iraq.
