In this article, we will seek to show the relationship between modern poetry and structural linguistics, and the stages that this relationship has gone through.

poetics is defined as the cognitive field which examines the general characteristics and laws of literature (poetry and prose), it is interested in theorization and seeks to develop a general and abstract theory of literature as verbal art.

in this article, we will try to answer the following research questions: what is the relationship of poetics with linguistics? how has the influence of linguistics manifested in modern poetics? what is the extent of poetic adherence to a strict linguistic methodology? was the relationship between them marked by proximity or surpassing? what are the most significant transformations of this relationship, from "Russian formalists" through "Tzvetan Todorov" to "Gerard Genette"?
