Abstract EN

The agro-food industry is one of the most important sectors of the manufacturing industries and one of the main pillars of the economy.

it aims to achieve food self-sufficiency.

food industries in Algeria rank third among other industrial branches.

the Algerian state has worked hard to promote this sector because of the continuous increase in demand from Algerian households, especially after the 1990 s.

this is due to the increase in the population density, to the increase of the incomes and to improve the standard of living.

in order to understand the relationship between the food industry and household consumption, we carried out an econometric study, during the period 1990-2021, based on the quantities of the most important products of the food industry, as independent variables and household consumption as a dependent variable.

we found that most food products have a positive impact on household consumption in the long run.
