Abstract EN

Government expenditure is one of the most important components of the GDP in any country, regardless of its political system and economic philosophy, it contributes to enhance the total effective demand on goods and services needed by society.

it stimulates the productive capacity of the economic sectors and the GDP.

therefore, the aim of the research came to clarify the importance of public expenditure in adjusting the structure of the GDP, especially that the Iraqi economy suffers from major structural imbalances, as a result of the weakness of the fiscal policy that was devoted to the rentier economy and neglected other productive sectors, which was reflected in the volume of public expenditures.

the study concluded that despite the importance of public expenditure in adjusting the composition of output.

however, these expenditures also suffered from structural imbalances and distortions, represented by the dominance of operating expenditures over investment expenditures, which was reflected in the imbalance of the GDP composition.

the research recommends that in order to improve the joints of the Iraqi economy, the composition of the GDP should be re-adjusted by diversifying the sources of this output by reducing dependence on the oil sector as a primary financing source for public expenditures and focusing on the development of non-oil economic sectors such as the agricultural and industrial sectors.
