This study aims to detect the contradictions that encumbered Edward Said’s mind, this American of Palestinian origin, critical thinker.

in our opinion, the mean reason for this inconsistency (research hypothesis) mainly, comes from the complexity of his identity and his affiliation : on the one hand, he is an Arab Palestinian, committed to the causes of Arab and Islamic peoples, on top of these topics : the occupation of Palestine by Israel.

he criticizes imperialism, the Israeli occupation in Palestine as well as American centralism.

on the other side, he is an American, who grew up in a secular culture in relation to imperialism and based on a different vision, what affected, deeply, the formulation of his views on the resistance.

this generated an incoherence between the principles of his thought and its results or between his objectives and his means, it’s what this research wants to demonstrate, by following the critical analysis method.

we insisted on presenting Said’s texts without removing them from their context, in order to make objective judgments about it.
