The Jews in Laghouat formed during the nineteenth century a distinct ethnic group, which lived side by side with the Muslims, who found sympathy, acceptance, solidarity and religious tolerance before them, so the Jews benefited from this as they had their own neighborhood in the city of Laghouat, and they spread in many places in the region and they integrated into social life, and practiced multiple economic activities on an equal footing with Muslims, so they had a wide activity in trade, especially jewelry making, until they completely monopolized this craft, and specialized in it without others, so they produced all the jewelry that women wanted Laghouat, where the Jewish goldsmiths worked in their own shops in the palaces, and as street vendors among the Bedouin tribes.
