Abstract EN

This study aims to transform public libraries in the United Arab emirates into smart libraries by knowing the reality of public libraries in the United Arab Emirates, as well as revealing the main motives for the transformation of public libraries towards smart libraries and the challenges facing the transformation of public libraries into smart libraries in the emirates.

in the study, the researcher focused on a sample of 27 federal and local public libraries.

the study reached a set of results : the most important of which is that most public libraries are moving towards building advanced libraries and information centers, where they are predominantly technological and advanced electronic.

the conditions in public libraries varied in their level of maturity, as 6% were in an advanced stage, 27% were in a developing stage, and 67% were in an early stage.

one of the most important recommendations of the study is the necessity of having a central body based on preparing developmental and cooperative standards in those libraries and establishing a coalition or alliance for these libraries to be able to unify efforts.
