Abstract EN

This research work is an attempt to study and analyze the ways in which theatre and religion intersect, based on the basic principle that this similarity between the two fields makes theater more capable of exploring the pressing religious issues that occupy our contemporary world, specifically the issue of the overlap between the religious field and the political field.

one of the most prominent societies that suffer from the consequences of this overlap between the two fields is the contemporary African societies.

African theatrical productions during the colonial era depict to us how the religious discourse emanating from the missionary churches played a prominent role in consolidating the domination of the European colonialist, as the European powers used the religious mask to spread dominance over the African continent.

in this way, the major question raised by this research work is : how can the interrelationship between theater studies and religions studies be exploited in analyzing the political influences exercised by religions in different parts of the African continent.
