Abstract EN

This article aims to shed light on the renewed Russian role in the arab Maghreb region with its ensuing challenges for the states there.

We start our analysis with a historical review of the relations between Russia and the Arab Maghreb states, their development from ideology to mutual economic and strategic interests, the changing place of the Maghreb region in the new geopolitical visions of Russia.

Furthermore, this article deals with the main penetrating tools of Russia, boiling down to economic, diplomatic and cultural, within the soft power which moscow began to pursue in its foreign policy recently.

Then, the article focused on the role of Russiain some key issues in the arab Maghreb region, like the Libyan crisis and the Sahraoui issue in which it is involved, added to it's new strategic role in the african Sahel region, as a space linked to the arab Maghreb at security level.

To conclude with, the article investigated the opportunities provided by the increased influence of Russia in the Arab Maghreb, on one hand, and the constraints/ risks this influence would pose on the other hand.
