Abstract EN

This article aims to investigate the epistemological justifications for mixed Methods research, by discussing the dilemma of the technical combination of quantitative and qualitative research, with its logical contradictions.

Then how to get out of this predicament based on a philosophical background that provides justifications that allow some of these differences to be overcome, while maintaining the relationship between what is epistemological and what is systematic.

Additionally, the most important of these epistemological references were reviewed and discussed, mainly represented in: Postmodernism, pragmatism, the paradigm of complexity, the critical theory of Habermas and the cognitive paradigm.

Providing real examples of how to apply them, especially in information and Communication Sciences.
