Abstract EN

This study attempts to answer the problems related to the extent to which the environmental dimension is present within the interests of the national commissions of international humanitarian law, in particular, those national committees, which include, within their composition, a representative of the governmental sector in charge of the environment.

this topic is particularly important in view of the lead roles of these commissions in the implementation of the requirements of international humanitarian law at the national level.

perhaps one of the topics that could be a priority on the agenda of national commissions on international humanitarian law is the protection of the environment in times of armed conflict, this environment, with its associated natural resources and industrial and cultural human installations, has a distinct place in the life of the population and in ensuring integrated and sustainable development.

although the international community has been careful to optimize the rules of international humanitarian law, by urging states to establish national commissions on international humanitarian law and to activate their competence, however, the environmental dimension of many of these national bodies is absent, both in form and in content.
