Abstract EN

The Sahel and Sahara region is the geographical area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Red Sea in the east، and the desert constitutes 40% of its area.

Characterized by a strategic location and important natural resources، international capitalist powers have vied with each other to control and benefit from it.

Besides، the Sahel and Sahara region has been plagued by problems that have hindered its development, such as desertification، political instability، and a weak central authority to secure its lands and protect its borders.

these problems have led to insecurity that encouraged a group of separatist movements and militant groups to destabilize the region.

Taking advantage of the collapse of the state in Libya and the weakness of security coordination between the countries of the region، these extremist groups have become a source of threat to domestic and international security.

In particular، this chaotic situation has contributed to the rise in security risks and threats to the Moroccan national security.

To confront these external threats، Morocco has adopted a set of diplomatic and economic measures such as South-South co-operation، economic openness and the consolidation of religious ties with some Muslim peoples of Africa.

in the light of this، this study aims to clarify the most important problems facing the Sahel and Sahara region and، more importantly، shed light on the threats resulting from them and the extent of their impact on Moroccan national security.
