Abstract EN

The aim of this research is to explore how cultural classifications, both explicit and implicit, contribute to the stereotyping of women, using the novel Riyam and Kafa by Hadiya Hussain, an Iraqi writer, as an example.

the study investigated various cultural factors, including religion, social systems, individualism, science, and thought, to understand how they shape the cultural classifications in the novel.

the research then identified the classifications that led to the stereotyping of women in iraqi and arab society as portrayed in the novel.

the study was divided into three parts, an introduction and two sections.

the introduction provided linguistic and contextual background information and introduced the author, Hadiya Hussein.

the first section focused on the significant cultural factors in the novel, while the second section examined the explicit and implicit cultural classifications.

these classifications revealed how cultural institutions, such as male dominance, submissive femininity, injustice, tyranny, grievances, racial discrimination, counterfeiting, palatability of vice, deception, and fraud, contribute to the negative portrayal of women in the novel.
