Abstract EN

Objective : this study aimed to explore the impact of the blockade crisis on the feeling of belonging to the national identity in the Qatari socie ty.

the study also aimed to explore the role that this identity plays in the respondents' attitudes towards the blockade, and their perceived threat, self-esteem, and psychological well-being.

methods : the sample for this study comprised 291 Qatari citizens (59.8% females and 40.2% males) whose ages ranged from 18 to 65 years (M = 34, SD = 10.5).

a cross-se ctional research design was adopted for this study that included a questi onnaire composed of demographic questions and 71 items that measured the main study variables.

results : the study findings indicated that the respondents' degree of belonging to the Qatari national identity was the highest when compared to their level of belonging to the Arab or the gulf identity.

correlation analyses revealed that the respondents' Qatari national identity scores were positively associated with negative attitudes towards the blockade, perceived threat, psychological well-being, and self-esteem.

the relationship between exposure to the conflict and national identity did not turn statistically significant.

mediation analyses revealed that Qatari national identity acted as a mediator between negative attitudes towards the blockade and psychological well-being, as well as a mediator between perceived threat and self-esteem.

conclusion : based on the study results, several recommendations were made, the most noteworthy of which was conducting further psychological and social studies in all gulf countries re gardless of the political disputes.

findings of such studies guide the proce sses for establishing bridges between national, gulf, and Arab identities so they can live in harmony rather contradiction.
