Abstract EN

This study examines the Islamic perspective on political leadership and its role in the fight against corruption as a means to provide a model for good contemporary governance.

The importance of this issue manifests in the unfortunate realities surrounding the political leadership in the Arab and Muslim worlds.

Most reports indicate that one-third of global corruption emanates from the Arab and Islamic world, where favoritism and nepotism are rife.

It would seem that the leadership in the Arab and Islamic world is focused on self-gain at the cost of the public interest.

They seem above the law or nullify or misinterpret it for their personal benefit.

The unfortunate result is a lack of progress and the inability to realise national goals.

This comes at the cost of public and individual rights whilst also providing a fertile environment for the growth of corruption in all its forms and manifestations.

Through the use of the analytical, descriptive as well as the comparative methods, we have sought to determine the ways in which current forms of governance in the Arab and Islamic world agree with the Islamic perspective on political leadership and the ways in which it differs.
