This article considers a range of cognitive theories of learning as teaching-learning theories that are essential to effective teaching, as they shed light on different aspects of the learning process as we want it today.

Learning theories can be classified into three main areas : behavioral, cognitive, and constructivist.

Behaviorism as a teacher centered educational framework has long dominated educational programs, and has constituted a major aspect of educational practice.

This article aims to provide an overview of the basic characteristics of the cognitive approach, with its philosophical and theoretical background, and its implications for classroom teaching practices.

It also seeks to demonstrate illustrative teaching methods through the analysis of cognitive approaches in teaching and learning.
