The United Nations, through its executive body, has played an active role in solving the problems related to the Syrian crisis from the political and humanitarian perspctives, in recognition of the international community of the serious repercussions of this crisis on international peace and security in a region filled with political, social and economic problems.

Perhaps the political aspect was equivalent to the humanitarian aspect of this crisis, so the UN Security Council and the General Assembly issued several resolutions in addition to presidential statements since the outbreak of the crisis in 2011 until January 2020, some of which constituted a pivotal stage in the repercussions of the Syrian problem after the international organization established The basic fields of a political solution according to a perspective in which humanitarian alternatives overlapped with political alternatives, the most important of which are the Kofi Annan initiative, Lakhdar Brahimi initiative, and the Staffan de Mistura initiative.
