Ferula hermonis boiss (Apiaceae) is a perennial endemic plant that can be found in a very restricted eco-giographic area between Syria and Lebanon, at the joint borders between Syria and Palestine.

middle east herbalists have used this plant as a folk remedy, and it is commercialized under the name 'sex root' or 'the lebanese viagra'.

this study was carried out to extract the essential oil from roots and seeds of ferula hermonis that grows abundantly on the mountain of gird bludan.

both oil samples from roots and seeds have been analyzed by GC-MS.

the results showed that the percent of the essential oil from roots is 0.6%, and the major component of it is ß-bisabolene 15.61%, then a-pinene 11.4%, while, the percent of the essential oil from seeds is 0.4%, and the major component of is a pinene 28.14% then Isoburnyl acetate and Cis-carvol with close proportions 6.71%, 6.67% respectively.
