Abstract EN

The letter is the third section of speech after the noun and the verb, and it is no less important than them, especially the letters of meanings that have different functions and connotations.

These letters have been studied grammatically and functionally because of their importance and the need of the people of Arabic for them, and because of their importance, the fundamentalists dealt with them in their jurisprudence books to clarify the desired meaning.

Among these fundamentalist books is the book “Al-Luma’ in Usul al-Fiqh” by Al-Shirazi, for which he devotes a special chapter which he called (Chapter of Saying in the Letters of Meanings).The study necessitated dividing the research into an introduction in which Shirazi's life and writings were clarified, followed by the study of the meanings of the letters of Shirazi with two chapters that dealt in the first research with letters and in the second with names.

This was followed by a conclusion that included the most important results of the research, and a list of research sources and references.The most important finding of the research is that Al-Shirazi did not mention all the letters of the meanings, but rather indicated what he frequently used of them.

His hints and references were few and insufficient to put him to one letter.

He used Quranic evidence to support his words, and a few poetic and prose evidence, and he did not cite the Prophet's witness.
