The research dealt with the study of the phenomenon of dividing the housing units of Al-Habibiya neighborhood (Locality 535 as a model), which is a neighborhood belonging to the first municipality of Al-SadrThe spread of this phenomenon and its transformation into sections of housing units with a smaller area emerged after 2003, so the percentage of splitting of those housing units in the research area reached (41.1%).

And I found that those criteria that were determined by the general plan for housing in Iraq are not consistent with the research area Among those criteria are criteria related to the family, which reached the number of its members (4-6) with the highest percentage of (45.6%), and its monthly income and occupations of the heads of families, most of whom were earners at a rate of (61.4%), and criteria for the housing unit represented by the ownership and age of the housing unit Time, building material, unit type and patterns, and number of floors The reasons for the division are due to the large population growth and the low standard of living for most families, whose monthly income reached (less than 250) thousand dinars and won the highest percentage of (46.8%), in addition to other reasons related to the marriage of one of the sons, which reached the highest percentage of (28.8) %) and the weakness of his ability to be independent in a housing unit, forcing him to live with his family, or the division of some units for commercial purposes to raise the family's standard of living, in addition to the weakness of administrative deterrence and lack of accountability Among the most important approaches that have been relied upon are the historical approach and the analytical approach, and the data has been analyzed by statistical methods
