Abstract EN

Cultural heritage is an essential symbol of a nations' identity and is a significant element that validates one's sense of belonging and unity.

not only does it preserve a nation's history, but it is also one of the major sources in the history of humanity.

up until now, Saudi Arabia continues to manage its archae ological sites by means of traditional methods that archive and document these sites, without spatially georeferencing them, thus making it a challenge to track of them practically and effectively.the aim of this study is to employ geographic information System (GIS) in order to build a model that will optimize the management of archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia through establishing a geographical database that relies on imperative criteria and requirements.

this study utilizes two methods : a case study and spatial analysis, to assess the current status of the archaeological sites in order to determine the requirements for building a geographical database model to better manage these sites.

the out come of this study consolidates the proposed geographical database model for the management of archaeological sites.

this model fulfills the tasks and duties needed to manage archaeological sites in a more spatial, efficient, and effective manner by using a geographical information system that pre serves, documents, and manages these archaeological sites.
