Abstract EN

The aim of the current research is to identify the etymologies and connotations of the agricultural terms and tools of Hufashi dialect in Al-Mahweet governorate, pinpointing the semantic shift and progression that have taken place in the evolution of agricultural term usage over time.

The respective terms have been collected from the inhabitants of Hufash district through direct hearing.

The collected terms have been tabulated in such a way that reflects their pronunciation (as native speakers pronounce them), meanings, and etymology (with reference to Arabic dictionaries and linguistic canons of Arabic) The descriptive analysis approach has been adopted to perform the current study.

The salient findings indicated that most of the agricultural terms and tools in the Hufashi colloquial dialect are classical Arabic or of classical Arabic origins structurally and semantically.

Furthermore, the colloquial usage of such terms has widened the meaning of these terms more than they have in the classical Arabic.
