Abstract EN

This study intends to shed light on the history of securing fresh water for Kuwait City during the time period from 1907 to 1953, by explaining and clarifying the most important ideas and projects implemented to develop the efforts of the Kuwaiti government as well as the efforts of its people to provide their needs from local and external drinking water sources.

It aims to uncover the efforts to secure water for Kuwait City by showing the mechanisms for it and the extent of success in achieving its objective during the time period of the study, which faced a dramatic increase in the number of Kuwait people with an equal increase in demand for drinking water as Kuwait received many foreigners and Arab experienced nationalities.

It uses the historical research method with its various elements, such as monitoring the development of historical events, in addition to analysis, interpretation and comparison.

The research content of the study is divided into two main topics, firstly - the efforts to provide fresh water internally, and secondly – provision of fresh water from Iraq.

It concluded that providing the needs of Kuwait City with fresh water was not alone confined to the country’s government, but was a result of the efforts of its people to join forces with their government, and the British authorities in the region, as well as Kuwait Oil Company.

They offered all the capabilities available to guarantees the independence, safety and long-term sustainability of the country's water resources.

Perhaps if these various efforts were not combined to provide fresh water for the country, Kuwait would not have achieved the prosperity and growth it witnessed after the first half of the twentieth century.
