Abstract EN

This study aims to expose the changes and transformations that occurred in the traditional structure of authority, whether the father’s authority or the head of the tribe’s authority, in Al Duqm.

The study also aims to identify the most influential variables in determining the features of the traditional authority in Al Duqm community.

In fact, the study relies on the descriptive analytical methodology and on the questionnaire as a tool for collecting data.

The study population consist of 737 Omani household who are living in Al Duqm.

These Omani households were distributed over 23 villages in different parts of Al Duqm.

Finally, the study concluded with a number of results.

The first result is that the expansion of a general decline in the authority of Al Sheikh, the head of the tribe, in Al Duqm.

The second result is that the education variable is one of the most important variables that contributes to raise the social statue of the individual in the status of Al Duqm.

The third result is that what influence individuals’ behaviors in Al Duqm are customs and traditions.

Moreover, the study proved the importance of variables; such as, “the relative relation between parents, the age structure, and the monthly income” in explaining the increase of individuals’ positive attitudes toward the retraction of the father’s authority on his household members.

On the other hand, the study indicated how marginal are the independent variables in explaining the increase of individuals’ positive attitudes toward the retraction of A Sheikh traditional authority.
