This study discusses the concept of a hermeneutical faculty and the need for it especially in our current time, due to the stagnation that has particularly affected the science of interpretation.

There is no doubt that its attainment will help in understanding the in tended meanings of Allah’s words, instead of relying solely on recitation.

Self-deduction and the use of reason in arriving at the meanings of the Qur’an encourage the exercise of the mind in deducing, analyzing, and critiquing, resulting in a deeper understanding than that which can be achieved through mere recitation without any mental or effortful engagement.

And those who rely on rote memorization and mere reception alone will find the knowledge they acquire weak and incomplete.

The study concludes by recommending the most important steps that can be relied upon in building this faculty, dividing them into steps before interacting with the Quranic text and others during the study of the verses, and finally, summarising the results achieved.
