Because of the importance of sustainable economic development in Iraq, a comprehensive strategic plan must be drawn up aimed at building good national (agri-food industries) that rise to international standards.

in order to avoid the occurrence of any harmful practice of local goods that may lead to them losing the terms and requirements of fair competition, the government must move towards strengthening the public and joint sectors; to improve the quality and development of local agricultural industries and work to increase their competitiveness to face imported goods.

the council of ministers assigned the ministry of planning to prepare a guide to encourage the national product and issue it annually, the main purpose of which is to highlight the identity of Iraqi products vis-à-vis countries abroad; and to familiarize citizens with locally manufactured products and the ease of their purchase.

one of the most prominent iraqi public sector companies is the general company for national products, which was established in 2016 after merging the general company for the vegetable oil industry, the general company for the dairy industry, the general company for the sugar industry and the general company for the tobacco and cigarette industry.
