Abstract EN
The cognitive needs of families of students with intellectual disabilities in the intermediate stage from their point of view in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
The study relied on the descriptive analytical method.
A questionnaire was made, in order to answer the questions of the study, the final image of which included (26) phrases, divided into three dimensions, and the validity and reliability of its tool were verified.
The final image of the questionnaire was applied to a sample of (89) parents of students with mental retardation in the intermediate stage in the city of Makkah, the results of the study indicated that the level of important cognitive needs of families of students with mental retardation in the intermediate stage is high from the point of view of these families as a result of the spread of negative orientations and misconceptions in society about persons with mental retardation, and there were no statistically significant differences at the level of statistical significance(a = 0.05) in all dimensions and the total degree of the scale depending on the gender variable and on the educational qualification variable.
The study recommended the necessity of providing counseling programs and training courses for families of people with mental retardation; To educate them and familiarize them with information about mental retardation.
