تتناول هذه الدراسة الشكل الاتصالي مارك 21 لبيانات التصنيف MARC 21 for classification data، من حيث أهميته والوظائف التي يقوم بها، و الحاجة إلى وجود شكل اتصالي معياري لبيانات التصنيف ضمن صيغ الشكل الاتصالي (فما21: MARC21)، كما تطرقت الدراسة إلى تاريخ و نشأة معيار مارك 21 لبيانات التصنيف و مراحل تطوره.
كما أوضحت الدراسة أهمية و جدوى وجود تسجيلة استنادية لبيانات التصنيف و المميزات العائدة من تطبيق مثل هذا المعيار في المكتبات، وكيف يؤدي إلى التوحيد و المعيارية في بيانات الفهارس.
وتناولت الدراسة بالشرح و التفصيل بنية و مكونات تسجيلة مارك الاستنادية لبيانات التصنيف و المعايير التي أنشئت طبقها، مع توضيح أنواع التسجيلات الاستنادية للتصنيف، و أنواع الأرقام المستخدمة داخل التسجيلة.

This study details the history and development of MARC21 for Classification Data Format assigned to classification records and its structure including guidelines for content designation defines the codes and conventions (tags, indicators, subfield codes, and coded values) that identify the data elements in MARC classification records, and the feasibility of applying such a standard at libraries' catalogues to ensure validation and standardization of classification numbers assigned to classification records across libraries' catalogues.
