Abstract EN

The self is not all evil, just as the other is not all evil.

So the West needs Islam and Islam needs the West, and their historical relationship reveals the existence of vast spaces for understanding, dialogue, and cooperation between both of them.

On this basis, this piece of research aims at dealing with some issues of the self (Islam) and the other (West), it studies five issues.

First, the researcher deals with the manifestations of cohesion and the interconnectedness between Islam and the West according to al-Jabiri, while how to reconcile Islam and secularism from the view of Muhammad Arkoun is presented after that.

Third, the researcher presents Hisham Jeait's interpretation of Islam's message 'lofty humanity towards the West'.

Fourth, the mechanisms of the West and how it deals with Islam according to Ed ward Said is simplified.

Fifth, the areas of openness between the Western and Is lamic worlds through Murad Alfred Hoffman's vision are studied following an an alytical and critical approach, which is based on explaining the relationship of the self and the other, and its evaluation in these authors, relying on various sources.
