Starting from the year 1970, Morocco witnessed rapid changes and transformations at all planes (political, economic and social), which openly affected the intellectual and cultural life in the country, and affected the daily reality of the Moroccan citizen.

All these circumstances resulted in the formation of various intellectual streams, most of which carry left-wing thought and oppose the existing regime - i.e., the monarchy - and support all concepts that fall under the rubric of democracy.

As a result, these flows managed to impose at a certain stage their ideology.

All of this led to the emergence of a youth movement of intellectuals and committed people (writers, plastic artists, poets, filmmakers...), who sustained the issues of their society and sought to present them in various expressive ways, within the umbrella of freedom of creativity and thinking In this framework, cinematic practice is considered one of the most important creative productions that rushed to join this liberating, innovative intellectual tide, seeking to break with all forms and types of submission and its direct link, in its core, with reality and community issues.

The date of 1970 represented the real beginning of Moroccan cinema, especially since the uppermost priority was to launch and confirm the project of building a national cinema open to the other, and committed within its offers to criticize the Moroccan reality and the distortions that affected all its systems.

In this concern, the productions of the period from 1970 to the year 1990 specifically examined the presentation of a formula for a cinematic discourse that allows the establishment of distinctiveness for this cinema.

The aim as such is not only to enhance liberation and renewal but also to ensure a cinema that backs on inspiring the Moroccan viewer's thought firstly and the Arab one secondly.
