Abstract EN

The birth of gangs in the newly-populated neighbourhoods is an urgent societal issue worthy of studying.

This article seeks to examine this phenomenon ecologically to find out the different physical and social characteristics of the newly-populated neighbourhoods as an urban space and its contribution to the emergence of these gangs.

The researchers used a case-study method to treat this topic.

A sample of that consists of eight interviewees has been selected.

Interviews and observations have been also utilized as a data collection technique.

Of the most noteworthy outcome of this study, after treatment and analysis, are: a set of social indices related to the newly-populated neighbourhoods help in giving birth to these gangs and guarantee its continuity.

Also, the poor urban planning makes of it a fertile ground for these gangs to thrive as they take advantage of all the technical faults to hide, gather, plot, plan and run.
