Abstract EN

This article seeks to highlight Schopenhauer's position on the problem of morality, and more particularly to highlight his conception of compassion as a moral principle capable of ridding man of the misery caused by his own will as the will to life that manifests in various forms of desires that cannot be satisfied once and for all.

Schopenhauer views the will to live as inherently selfish; therefore, it was absurd to talk about the possibility of establishing fixed standards of morality, but it never the less confirms the existence of an innate positive emotion towards painful situations that can replace the moral principle that rids man of his selfishness.
