Faced with the growing demand for port services, and its transformation from just land station to receive ships into a complex, intertwined and productive industry at the same time, challenges arose in the face of these facilities, most notably the protection of the envinement from pollution.

this phenomenon results from the introduction of materials by man and his work, which would negatively affect the ecological balance in the port.

it may extend to water basins and land surfaces, as well as to the layers of the atmosphere, the sources of pollution differ according to the different stakeholders in the port activities in pursuit of the concept of sustainability in the use of ports, which is based on achieving economic and social gains without compromising the environmental balance, a set of international treaty have been enacted to combat the phenomenon of marine pollution, including port pollution, and rules brought by the Algerian legislator included strategies and plans to combat the pollution phenomenon known to Algerian ports.
