This paper aims to cover the subject of democratic transition in the Maghreb countries.

this paper reaches the following conclusion: the path dependency and the weight of the choices and institutional arrangements made since the state-building stage have led to the consolidation of the authoritarian regimes in morocco and Algeria and the prevention of a real democratic transition; the unexpected critical juncture in Tunisia led to a real democratic transition that established the initial conditions for any democratic regime.
