Abstract EN

Based on the annual reports of six Algerian banks over a ten-year period, this research paper seeks to examine the effect of bank governance on financial performance as shown by return on assets and return on equity (2012-2021).

while the lack of an adequate number of board members had a detrimental effect on the financial performance of the banks under examination, the study did find that several principles helped to improve financial performance, the urgent need to determine an ideal board of directors size, which improves the financial performance of banks, is one of the key findings drawn from this research.
