تقييم أثر جائحة كورونا على جودة الهواء ببعض المدن العربية

Abstract EN

This paper aims to evaluate the changes recorded in the values of surface temperatures and the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as the visual depth index (AOD) which was recorded in three Arab cities (Cairo - Jeddah - Dubai).

This is during the period of suspension of cities and the application of home quarantine, which many cities in the world, including Arab countries, were exposed to during the Corona pandemic.

Where the comparisons were made between the values of these elements during the period from (March 15 to April 15) for the years 2019, 2020, and the reliance was on the results of analyzing satellite visuals produced from the Land Surface Temperature (LST) satellites, Sentinel-5p TROPOMI.

The study concluded that there are clear changes in the values of the temperatures and concentrations of the aforementioned elements at the level of the three cities, which clearly indicates that clear positive effects have already occurred regarding the level of air quality in those cities.
