Abstract EN

This study aimed to reveal the predictive ability of the fear of compassion for smiling depression among First-Year Students at Yarmouk University.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher prepared the smiling depression scale, which consisted of (35) items distributed into two domains : the domain of feelings and thoughts and the domain of hidden behaviors.

The study used the fear-of-compassion scale which was prepared by Gilbert, McEwan, Catarino and Baiao (2014) and consisted of (35) items, distributed into three domains : the domain of expressing compassion for others, the domain of responding to expressing compassion from others, and the domain of expressing self-pity.

The study sample consisted of (487) male and female first-year students at Yarmouk University.

The results of the study showed that the smiling depression and fear of compassion were at a moderate level.

They indicated that there was a predictive ability of fear of compassion for smiling depression among first-year students at Yarmouk University.
