Abstract EN

This study aims to introduce an example of Arabic novels that conveyed the horrors of the Syrian war.

It dealt with the Arabic novel as an art that responds to the various variables affecting the societies where they arise.

Among these changes are those that affected our societies due to Chaos Theory.

In this context, we will try examine how the Arabic novel, through engagement with the theme of the Syrian war, provided an artistic structure that corresponds to this theme.

The choice of the analysis of this phenomenon was based on one of the distinct models represented in the novel Mary's exodus by the Syrian novelist Mahmoud Hassan Al-Jasem.

The latter has proposed a new concept of the novelist who seeks to achieve two goals : the first goal is tracing the course of a very accurate historical era in Syrian history in particular.

The second goal is to advance a strong argument against the oppression of man on the one hand and his tyranny on the other.

To this end, the study included three main themes : the first theme was the definition of Chaos Theory.

The second theme consisted of identifying the structure of Mary's exodus as a successful and applicable fictional model.

The third theme, however, dealt with the narrative text through the search for what we called "aspects of ignition" in the novel.

By these aspects, we meant the centrality of the female narrator, the general narrative structure.

We also connected the narrative structure with the collapse of "grand narratives" that are concerned with major issues and that have been replaced by smaller narratives, as explained in contemporary literary theories.
