This research is a semiotic study of Al-Asfuriyah, as one of the famous contemporary Arabic novel by the Saudi novelist Ghazi A.

Alqosaibi.

The researcher selected this fictional work for two reasons.

The first reason is that it was chosen as the best Arabic novel among a hundred Arabic novels.

This choice was premised on its artistic and literary value, as it represents a milestone in the contemporary Arabic narrative.

The second reason is the dominance of the empirical discourse in the novel.

Its discourse is problematic, symbolic and rich in connotation.

Besides, it needs a method that fits its symbolism to reveal its literary aesthetics.

The researcher selected the semiotic method as it is modernist approach that is concerned with sign and symbol.

The aim is to reach the heart of the main idea around which the dialogue of masks revolves in this distinguished novel.
