Title – investigating the efficacy of task-based language teaching (TBLT)‎ in improving the speaking skills of EFL student : a meta-analysis

Abstract EN

Speaking skills are considered to be among the hardest skills for foreign language-learners to improve, especially while living in their home country and lacking adequate opportunities to communicate in the medium of the target language.

In that sense, it is important to consider the teaching approach.

For example, it can be helpful to provide such learners with the chance to practice speaking through tasks.

One possible approach in this regard is task-based language teaching (TBLT), where the tasks are essential teaching tools.

This study investigates the impact of TBLT on the development of speaking skills.

Although there are many different types of task, tasks are identified as either focused or unfocused in this study, wherein both types are included.

The results reveal the positive impact of this approach on EFL learners’ speaking ability.

Recommendations for the adoption of TBLT to teach EFL speaking skills are therefore made for stakeholders in higher education.
